Movement Isn't Optional (And Two Other Things I Never Skip)

I have three things I don't negotiate on: reading, goals, and movement. Doesn't matter how the day is going, or where I am in the world; these things happen.

Review Your Goals

I don't wait until January to think about my goals. Setting them is only the beginning; what matters is continually focusing on them throughout the year.

For the big ones, I'm analog forever baby. I write them down and keep coming back to what I wrote. It gives me a way to check in with myself: Is this still what I desire? What daily choices am I making that support accomplishing the goal? Is there something I could do differently?

You won’t make meaningful progress toward every goal every single day, but keeping them in sharp focus re-orients the priorities in how you choose to spend your time and money.

The things I've accomplished didn't happen because I set a goal once. They happen because I keep returning to what I desire and making decisions with it in mind in small and big ways.

Read

Audiobooks in the car are elite for mindset and learning. I don't need silence to read, I need a commute (or school pickup line…iykyk) and something new to learn.

It's not a habit I had to build from nothing. It's built into a part of my day that was already happening anyway, the drive to the studio, the school run, wherever I'm already sitting behind a wheel. Nothing new to schedule, just maximizing the time that is going to pass either way.

Move Your Body

Every day. Movement is simply not optional. Think of your body like a car sitting in a garage. Leave it parked long enough and it rusts out. Same thing happens to you.

You don't need an hour. You don't even need thirty minutes. Work it into what's already happening: a self-guided weights session, a walking pad during a meeting you're not running. Walk your dog. Chase your kids around the park. Fifteen minutes on a mat counts!

The important thing is to make it part of your daily routine - and if you miss a day - don’t miss the next one. Never skip it twice or that’s the start of a new and unhealthy habit.

Here are 3 different videos, 3 different lengths - same non-negotiable part of your day: MOVEMENT
